Consider Arlington
The title of this post is hardly necessary considering the fact that millions of people already consider Arlington one of Washington D.C.'s must-see attractions.
I think it is partly the simple, white gravestones without embellishment that draw visitors, the beautiful fact that to be buried here is a high honor for any member of the military but to do so the soldier relinquishes any decoration that would mark his rank as higher than any of the comrades buried near him.
There are many things to see here, Arlington House for which the cemetery is named, the graves of three former presidents, including John F. Kennedy, and the amphitheater with medals of honor and flags belonging to unknown soldiers who paid the ultimate price.
One of the most popular attractions at Arlington Cemetry is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, especially the changing of the guard. This ceremony happens every 30 minutes in warm weather, and it is a moving experience showcasing military excellence at its best. This tomb holds the actual remains of one unknown soldier who fought in World War II and is symbolic of unknown American soldiers who fell throughout our history. It is a truly moving display of brotherhood that even now when our country is at war, these soldiers are guarded with honor day and night.
Washington D.C. remains one of the best destinations in the country for educational tours. And it is landmarks such as this one that make that true.
