Boston: A Quick Overview

Looking for a great destination for a student tour? Consider Boston Massachusetts; this city has great parks, museums and dining. It is also a prime location for historical sites. Most people will remember that is was the site of the famous Boston Tea Party, but Boston also played a significant role in the American Revolution, and thus features many other historical sites. Boston also has many opportunities to view concerts and theater productions, and visiting some high quality museums and landmarks are also options that are available. Here are some things your group will want to consider when planning a tour to Boston.

Boston is home to several museums which your group may be interested in visiting. Several places for viewing a wide variety of art include The Museum of Fine Arts, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum and the National Museum of Afro-American Art. The Children’s Museum is a great destination for a field trip with younger students, who will enjoy the interactive displays on culture, science and other various topics, and for older students, plan to visit the Museum of Science, which features hands-on displays and an IMAX theater. The Franklin Park Zoo and the New England Aquarium are popular tourist attractions as well, and student will enjoy learning about their favorite animals and watching them in recreations of their natural habitats.

Boston also contains many opportunities for those interested in the arts. Boston is home to a Theater District that contains a number of ornately decorated theaters, including the Boston Opera House and the Cutler Majestic Theater. The Boston Symphony, the Boston Symphony Chamber Players offer classical music concerts, and the famed Boston Symphony Pops, which features lighter classics and popular tunes, is also a popular choice. A performance by the world renowned Boston Ballet will appeal to dance fans and for a more casual musical environment, there are numerous street performers that serenade shoppers at various locations within the city. Boston is also the home to hardcore punk and features a thriving underground music scene that includes Rock, Punk, Indie and various other popular genres.

As stated before, Boston is home to numerous historic sites that trace important events from colonial times through the present, and your group won’t want to miss out on them. The Freedom Trail contains sixteen significant historical sites including several meeting houses, famous churches, and a few burial grounds. Visitors will enjoy following the red brick trail past popular sites such as The Paul Revere House and the USS Constitution.

Your group will inevitably become hungry sometime during your stay in Boston. When this happens, be sure to sample some of the popular regional cuisine. As Boston is a port city, many of the famous dishes include seafood; fish and chips, New England clam chowder, oysters, lobster and fried clam are all tasty choices. Faneuil Hall Marketplace is a good place to find some of these dishes, and as an added bonus, also doubles as a shopping venue. Older students will especially welcome the chance to shop and eat, as well as watch some of the street musicians that gather near this place.

These are just a few things to consider for your group’s tour of Boston. If your group happens to be in Boston at the right time, consider taking them to a Boston Red Sox or New England Patriots game for an evening activity. Whatever your group ends up touring, it is safe to say the sites they see will create a memorable and educational experience.
