There's No Place Like Home

According to this blog post, the latest addition to the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History is a portrait of Stephen Colbert. This is proof that in this museum you'll find alongside the history and artifacts, a sense of humor.
At the very least you'll see the American spirit in all its varied glory. The museum is currently undergoing renovations but will open again November 21. From then on students can once again enjoy a showcase of all that made America what it is today, including some of the pop culture so famous as to have earned a spot in our national history - like, for instance, Dorothy's ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz, (pictured here by dbking on Flickr).
Perfect for student tours and field trips, the American History museum celebrates who we are and how we got here. Artifacts from the founders of our nation are just the beginning. And the ruby slippers are hardly the end. Prepare to be inspired, moved, and entertained when the museum finally reopens and reminds us just how great it is to be American.
