The Smithsonian's Zoo

This is the most famous resident of the National Zoo in Washington D.C.  The zoo in our nation's capital was established by the Smithsonian Institution.  It's a complete learning center for the conservation of animals around the world.  (Photo by tiranno on Flickr)

I've featured Washington D.C. for over a month on this blog.  It's the perfect city for educational tours and probably the most popular destination in the country for travel.  The sites and attractions in this city are as varied as the personalities in any classroom.  With its museums, monuments and memorials, government buildings and parks, Washington D.C. is exciting for anyone.

And the National Zoo is one of its most popular attractions of all.  There may be animals here students have yet to even know exist.  But all the favorites grace its landscape as well.  And being established by the Smithsonian gives it a leg up on the purpose of education - something sponsers and chaperones appreciate most about the famous D.C. attractions.  Students are sure to leave the National Zoo with a greater understanding of the animals with whom we share the earth, how we can protect and preserve them for generations to come.
