The Sad Legacy of Ford's Theatre and the Petersen House

Abraham Lincoln faced the daunting task of bringing together a country that had previously divided to the point of war.  Few presidents accepted the office with such a weight.  His words have remained in history as some of the most powerful spoken by any of our presidents.  They are repeated in schools around the country, by writers and philosophers, and even in recent days by our newest president-elect.  Lincoln's words remind us not why we divide but how we can find a way to unite.

Lincoln had one of the few very tragic ends to his presidency.  His legacy is remembered in his beautiful memorial as well as throughout the country by his words and the honor always paid him.  But he is also remembered with sadness at the place where he was shot and where he eventually lost his life.

Educational tours to Washington D.C. are not complete without a greater understanding of some of our most revered political figures and national heroes.  Ford's Theatre is one place to remember a favored president and mourn the loss of one of our country's greatest men.
