As Told by Daniel
The Holocaust was perhaps the most tragic era in human history. Museums around the world are dedicated to it, both to tell the story of its victims and to bring to light the hatred that still threatens our world today. When we educate students on this atrocity, we take a step toward securing our future - hopefully instilling the courage to produce change in the world wherever similar hatred exists.
The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum takes us through the facts and various components of Hitler's reign, and in one part of the museum it does so through the eyes of a boy who lived it. His own journal entries are used to draw visitors into his world and make their understanding of this tragedy deeply personal.
It is always a moving experience to read stories about these terrible years. But the experience is far more intense and far more likely to effect change when it is told through the eyes of one who was there.
