And any of our educational tours can be tweaked for families, co-workers, and other large groups. We also love creating exciting tours for military reunions.
Understandably, the bond you create with your military unit is different than any other relationship in your life. You and your unit members become a family. And undoubtedly your spouses and children grew close as well. Military reunions bring everyone together to reconnect, catch up on new and exciting news, or even the sorrows no life can fully avoid. But beyond that, a military reunion helps you connect again to the thing that bonded you in the first place: Your branch of the military, the country you served, and all that these things evoke in your minds and hearts. A military reunion lets you fly the banner of your unit again and gather under that common, unifying cause.
Tons of Destinations
There are several exciting military sites around the country, and different ones will mean different things for your unit. In Washington D.C., for instance, you can find several great attractions centered around every branch of the U.S. military. Did you know, for instance, that each branch is represented in the figures of the Korean War Memorial on the National Mall? Your unit might also enjoy a tour of the Pentagon. These multi-faceted walking tours were created for the bicentennial and remain because of their popularity. There’s a ton to see here, and it might be especially moving for veterans. The Iwo Jima, or what is commonly called that, is actually the U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial. It’s dedicated to every Marine from the beginning of our country to the present (and beyond). Imagine standing there as a unit.
Other military sites can be found in Philadelphia, Boston, Hawaii, and so much more.
Norfolk and Virginia Beach
One popular tour for military reunions is the Liberty Tour in Norfolk, Virginia. This tour includes the Virginia Beach Air & Space Center with imaginative exhibits from Adventures in Flight to space exploration and much more. You’ll visit Fort Monroe and its museum, and take a walking tour at the larger-than-life National Aviation Monument Park.
Nauticus is a museum dedicated to the U.S. Navy. It includes a tour of the USS Wisconsin and exhibits devoted to that history. Another exhibit lets you step inside history when the Great White Fleet was commissioned and released by President Theodore Roosevelt. On the Liberty Tour you’ll also tour the four buildings dedicated to the life and contributions of General Douglas MacArthur and NAS Oceana, home to the U.S. Navy’s fighter jets.
Perhaps the most moving experience on the Liberty Tour, though, is when your unit gathers at the artistically stunning Tidewater Veterans Memorial. Here you can display your unit’s flags as you gather and commemorate the service you gave and the friendships you forged in your amazing role as a member of the U.S. military.
It’s a calling worth memorializing periodically so you can remember what you gave and what you accomplished. It’s a brave and beautiful service. And a military tour is a moving way to commemorate that duty together.
