Have you ever been in charge of the family reunion? Your mind probably goes to checkered tablecloths, the local park, catered potato salad. There’s nothing wrong with any of that, of course. The point to a family reunion is to see each other.

But what if you thought bigger? If your family is fairly spread out, what if you chose a destination to which everyone had to travel? Someplace where you could stay together at a centralized hotel and then enjoy all the destination’s great attractions once you got there?

It takes family travel to a whole new level. You can still have the meet-and-greet and even a big banquet one night, but the rest of the weekend you could take in exciting performances or guided tours of fascinating places.

This is a great opportunity to choose some of our theme tours. Our tours in black history, for instance, might be an excellent and natural extension for a reunion with your family members. Washington D.C. makes a great destination for any kind of group travel, and in this case it provides all the best attractions for a family reunion and attractions filled with black history.

Martin Luther King, Jr., stood here for his famous civil rights speech and the march it was a part of, and now your family can stand here as well and remember the power of that message. As you can see from this picture, the monuments and memorials on the National Mall are beautifully illuminated after dark for an even more inspiring place of reflection.

Washington D.C. has many other fantastic sites for families, many focused on black history as well. It’s a great choice for family reunions, though not the only one. Get creative! Think of a city centrally located to much of your family or perhaps a destination that means something to your ancestry. With a little thought, and the motivation to travel, you can create the best and most exciting family reunion yet.
