Put Some Music in the Tour: Unique Concert Venues

Many of us make music a large part of our day – whether at work or school, during the commute, or at home to wind down from the day. The arts have been studied to show significant improvement in all kinds of learning, so it seems to stand to reason that music could be a benefit to productivity rather than a detriment. Since it’s such a part of everyday life and such a proven benefit to further learning, it only seems right to give music a times slot in itineraries for student travel.

Fortunately, there are almost innumerable ways to take in a musical event around the country – some of them incredibly unique. Pictured here: One of our favorites. This is the Jay Pritzker Pavilion, and it makes a brilliant addition to Chicago educational tours. You’ll find this amazing venue in Millennium Park, which is a somewhat new and extremely popular addition to Grant Park and the entire park district of Chicago. This pavilion allows up to ten thousand guests participate in an outdoor concert through the engineering genius of its overhead grid that holds the powerful sound system.

If you visit during the summer, you may get to experience the Grant Park Music Festival at the famous pavilion. This is a free concert series, bringing classical music to the masses, and a longstanding Chicago parks tradition. The Pritzker hosts a number of other concerts throughout the year as well with community groups, dancers, theater, and more.

New York City is another great city for musical events. Many shows on Broadway are sure to sweep you away with their song and dance numbers. Or perhaps you’ve always wanted to discover for yourself the amazing acoustics in the theaters at Carnegie Hall – this is perhaps the most prestigious music venue of all, and you’ll love exploring its rich and luxurious history when you take a tour. Of course, many of the most popular NYC music events take place at the Garden itself. Though no longer actually located on the street that gave the venue its name, Madison Square Garden, is still as popular as ever – home to the Knicks and other sports teams throughout the year as well as the many concerts and events.

With almost any city you choose for student tours or group travel, music tours are a possibility. Each venue will probably be equally exciting and unique, and possibly one of the best parts of the tour.
