Since working at a travel company, I’m not sure anything has been quite as fun for me as some recent research I did on roller coasters. Roller Coasters. In my research, I discovered a park I had never heard of before but which has now skyrocketed to the top of my list of the best roller coaster parks in the country.

I’ll save that one for last though and highlight some of my other discoveries first. Our Los Angeles graduation trips will take you to one of the other greats with Six Flags Magic Mountain. This park has one of the tallest, fastest stand up roller coasters as well as a flying one, and the park itself bills itself as Extreme, which is highlighted by its newest ride, the X2.  Besides that, I have to suggest just about any other Six Flags in the country, which all contain several thrilling coasters at least. Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson Township, Virginia, holds the record for the longest, tallest coaster in the world, which they appropriately call by the massive name Kingda Ka. Even Sea World, the mild-mannered, oceanside home to Shamu, has added an amazing roller coaster to their attractions. They call it the Kracken, and its unique, floorless, pedestal-style seat simply adds to the thrill. Of course, don’t neglect the newer Orlando powerhouse as well with Universal’s Islands of Adventure. This park is famous for its innovative rides, combining entertainment with the thrills in a way no one else has.

But despite these amazing runners up, the highest-thrill park in the country, and in fact probably the world, has to be Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. Have you heard of this place? It is the record-holder for the most roller coasters in any one park. It has the coaster pictured here, which actually crosses the park’s midway. It has a dueling coaster, a popular format in which two cars race each other to the finish, plus all of the other loops and dips and tunnels and thrills that make roller coasters one of America’s favorite pastimes. If you’re searching for thrills this summer, consider these. I guarantee they will not disappoint.
